potw: what a man

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8

dad's day is coming, you guys.

i appreciate the no-frills, just-the-facts-please style of the first card.

it's father's day. here's a card.

there's still plenty of time to grab one of these for the fathers and father figures in your life.

looking for more letterpress goods? check out my press of the week series here. a new potw is posted (almost) every monday a few times a month. but you can always find the latest by following me on twitter.

a few pics

this weekend was pretty quiet for me, which was a good thing since the last couple have been pretty busy. and we're traveling the next few weekends, so it was good to have some time at home.

we did go to another nats game yesterday. probably shoulda went saturday instead since yesterday decided to bring the pain in the form of crazy humidity.

but they won! both games, actually.

we also had to say goodbye to our other frenchie that we'd been watching for the week. it was fun having him around.

later this week, i'm off to san francisco for our one-year anniversary getaway/friend's wedding in sonoma. should be an awesome time. i can't wait to eat and eat and eat.

june rules

if may is my favorite month, june is a mighty close second.

and this first weekend turned out pretty great, even if i did have to work.

baking more of these already
go see it
leaving campus after working during reunion weekend
lucy has a boyfriend for the week / dogsitting

a meal too good to stop and instagram

i also want to tip my hat to the amazing chefs at table. i've been talking about going there for months and months now and i'm so glad we finally went.

i have eaten at a lot of places in my nine years living here, but i can say without question that this was the best meal i have ever had in dc.

enjoy your week!

i'm blue

...with less than seven hours to spare in the month of june, let's talk blueberries!

blueberries.

i wasn't always a fan.

(excluding some length of time in 7th grade where the ONLY cereal i'd eat was blueberry morning. what a weird little tween!)

but i've grown to like them.

june is their time to shine.

i actually like them raw, and the boy adds them to his daily dose of morning oatmeal. but there are other ways to enjoy these little guys. ways that take them beyond the muffins and pancakes they so often are find themselves in.

the kitchn (part of apartment therapy) has some yummy-sounding blueberry basil ice cream. (or, 'baz-ul'  in the UK!)

over at sprouted kitchen,

there's a great recipe for blueberry & cream tarts. even better? the berries aren't cooked.

(btdubs, the photos on this site blow my bokeh-loving mind)

i enjoy fresh fruit so. much. more. than its heated counterpart.

"but it's the summer, and i'm dying of thirst!" you say.

relax.

 blueberry lemonade via eliza domestica.

(full disclosure? never read the blog before. but, i'm always down for pretty food pics.)

i like this idea because lemon always brightens things up.

and with that, i say, happy berry season!

just remember to check your teeth after eating these. that skin will get stuck in your teeth like nobody's business. yikes.

side note: when i first posted about seasonal eats, i linked to two resources, neither of which included dc in their list.  i checked back recently and field to plate now includes lil ol dc. even if they just link to the farmers' market page, it's progress!

may berry

in april, it was asparagus

i'm not big on fruit desserts.
i don't even really like pie.
(i know, i know)

however...
one of my favorite desserts of all time is strawberry shortcake.

i've made it once before.
so. good.

now if baked fruits are more your thing, check out this strawberry cake from smitten kitchen. you can even get gourmet with it and drizzle some balsamic over these pretty red berries.
