the eye has to travel

this.

i cannot WAIT for this. i live for all kinds of documentaries, and i've mentioned a few good ones on this blog before. but well-edited, inspirational-as-hell fashion documentaries are really some of my favorite things to watch.

i just love the interviews and first-person accounts. so much cool insight you'd never get anywhere else.

this hit theaters last friday.

if you're local, here's two locations that are showing it. and now i know what i'm doing on friday night.

two tickets, please!

minimalist

movie posters tend to be overdone, over photoshopped, and even a little obnoxious at times.

but what if they weren't?

here's some beautiful examples of minimalism in movie (and tv!) posters, all sourced from here.

pretty good stuff, right?

oh. and have you heard of that last one? the king of kong?

it's incredible. and this is coming from a person who could care less about the entire video gaming industry. but it's just one of those feel-good movies where you find yourself rooting for the good guy and loathing the villain. it really draws you in. i can't recommend enough.

watch a preview here.

growing cities

this one, called 'growing cities' is particularly interesting to me. i love all sorts of documentaries, but any one about food and sustainability always really draws me in.

my mother and grandmother are both big gardeners. i am...not. this is something i'm hoping to change over time because the idea of growing your own food just fascinates me.

first position

yet another documentary for me to love.

maybe it's up your alley too?

either way, i'm all ready to go see it. if you're local, it's showing here.

see you in line!

eighth wonder

much like the bill cunningham documentary, i'm kinda geeking out over this linotype film.

i'm sorta a documentary nerd. i can't get enough. especially when they're done well.

and from how awesome this preview looks (love the way it was edited!), this one looks like it's gonna be a new fave.

peep the screening schedule here.
can't wait to check it out!

for all you dc folks, looks like they're coming back to baltimore may 3 [the first showing is tonight but it has sold out!]

read more info about linotype: the film here, here, and here.

pretty pumped for this flim
about beloved new york times
photog bill cunningham

 image via zeitgeist films

from zeitgeist films:
the “bill” in question is 80+ new york times photographer bill cunningham. for decades, this schwinn-riding cultural anthropologist has been obsessively and inventively chronicling fashion trends and high society charity soirĂ©es for the times style section in his columns “on the street” and “evening hours.”

if that doesn't convince, mayhaps queen anna herself can:

'we all get dressed for bill'
-anna wintour, editor, vogue

ok ok ok... where is it playing?

'don't worry about it'

i don't think about age too often

but i may be having a
milestoney(ish, esque)
bday this year.
